Ham Radio show - ¨The Ham Sandwich¨ 4 - Yaesu FRG-7 Special

Ham Radio show - ¨The Ham Sandwich¨ 4  - Yaesu FRG-7 Special.

It is now February , the start of the year (what happened to January ?) and Steve and Greg are back again with another ¨The Ham Sandwich¨ show.
Todays show is a special show that salutes a classic communications receiver from the 1970's - the Yaesu FRG-7.

What caused this receiver to become a modern collectible which still has a large fan following some 40 years after it was released ?

Watch todays Yaesu FRG-7 special and find out why Steve and Greg like this particular receiver so much so that they have owned more than 1 each :-)

Sneak Peek at Show number 4.

Sneak Peek at Show number 4.

Now that it is 2016 Steve and I will be starting the year off with a special show.
Show number 4 will be about the all time classic shortwave communications receiver , the Yaesu FRG-7.

Why did this radio made in the 1970's turn into a collectible ?
What is special about the design that was uncommon at the time ?
What should we look for when we want to buy one ?
and What should we do when we get it home ?

These questions and many more will be answered in show number 4 on 'The Ham Sandwich' - The Yaesu FRG-7 special.

We hope you will stick around for a serving of that one :-)

A suggestion made by Bobby Tectalabyss -
https://plus.google.com/106584113216153241092/posts
- is that we post the three existing 'The Ham Sandwich' shows onto the new channel.

What a great idea :-)
Thanks Bobby.

A new Youtube channel.

To help ¨The Ham Sandwich¨ show get noticed quickly I have been putting the show videos on my own personal YouTube channel.

I admit that we used my existing subscriber base to get the show noticed by viewers that we knew already had an interest in Amateur Radio.

Now that we have made it into 2016 , and the show has gained some traction of its own , we now have made a YouTube channel purely for ¨The Ham Sandwich¨ shows.

You can find it here -

¨The Ham Sandwich¨ on YOUTUBE

Even if you have subscribed to the YouTube channel HamAndShortwave you MUST subscribe to the new channel if you wish to get automatic updates through the YouTube notification system , when new shows are added.

Alternatively you can subscribe or bookmark this Blog and when new shows are added , they will show up here too.

Pretty neat huh ? :-)

¨The Ham Sandwich¨ 3

¨The Ham Sandwich¨ 3

Show number three is an odd one.
As the end of 2015 was approaching fast it was getting hard to find time free to get a show out.
Do we do it now and rush it out with little in the way of professional preparation , or do we wait another month so as to let things cool down first ?

The answer -- a totally unprepared show done at the last minute , but you know what ,, you can barely notice :-D

¨The Ham Sandwich¨ 1

After many months deliberating and planning Steve Carter KD0PXX and Greg White OH2FFY bring out the very first episode of ¨The Ham Sandwich¨.

¨The Ham Sandwich¨ show is recorded live with the co-hosts being over 7,500kms apart.

In this episode we discuss a few of the basics of the idea behind the show and what we are doing in our shacks.

The start begins almost here.

Hello world :-)

This is the first post on the Blog site for the Ham Radio show , 'The Ham Sandwich'.
The Ham Sandwich' is hosted by two Ham radio operators , me , Greg White in Helsinki Finland , and Steve Carter over in Omaha Nebraska USA.

Steve and I both feel that there has been lacking for many years a good show for Ham Radio operators , and other Radio electronics hobbyists to enjoy.

Many shows have come and gone , some start out well , , and then just peter out into nothingness.
Some start well , and then lose their way.
Again other shows start well , but in their pursuit to make money , take on advertisers and then things just seem to become a show of non stop adverting and ego inflating.

Both Steve and I take Amateur Radio seriously , seriously in the way that its not simply a worthless game that can be played.
We view Ham Radio as a technological pursuit that offers unique opportunities to Radio electronics experimenters. , and that you get out of it what you put into it.

As in all technical pursuits education is involved and this we feel is vital for Ham Radio to survive in the 21st century.

We both continue to learn every day as we tackle our own work bench trials and tribulations and we endeavor to use 'The Ham Sandwich' show to help inspire other Hams or Radio hobbyists to try their own projects , their own custom builds , and their own repairs.

For a number of years Hams have been drawn away from building and repairing , and have become spoiled with mass produced 'soulless' rigs.

This has to change as the appliance operator mentality ROBS YOU of the part of Ham radio , that is the best part.

Please follow us , Greg and Steve as we continue our own adventure in electronics , and hopefully we all can learn something new along the way.

After all , that really is what ham radio is meant to be all about.
